THANPARNI-THE UNIVERSAL GIFT OF GOD

In India, a large no of medicinal plants grow in a state of nature. These plants possess properties and cause action similar to the imported and often expensive remedies and form excellent substitutes.
In early literatures this innocuous little herb, which is found everywhere in India, having amazing medicinal values has been mentioned as “Mandukaparni”.In Atharva Veda it has been mentioned as “Mandukilata”.
In English we call it Indian Pennywort. Its botanical name is centella asiatica.
In Assamese we call it “manimuni” and its Bangla name is “Thankuni”. Thanparni is the Sanskrit of this valuable herb.
From early days, this creeping herb, having immense medicinal value enjoys considerable reputation in our indigenous system of medicine.Param Premomoy Sri Sri Thakur Anukulachandra advised all to take Thanparni leaves every early morning in empty stomach so that we can lead a healthy and long life.
This small creeping herb is found everywhere in India. But it is abundantly found in a soil where percentage of salt is more. The herb has a spreading habit and grows numerous small roots which arise on the node of the stem.Thanparni is available in two forms, broad leaved and small leaved. The entire Thanparni plant is medicinal and the roots as well as stalks and leaves are medicinal.
The leaves of the herbs are washed and dried in shade(so that active volatile components donot get lost)and then ground it to powder.Thanparni tablets are prepared from the powder for future use.Thanparni exerts wonderful effect on various system of our body.
Thanparni tones the nervous system,so it is popular as nerve and brain tonic. It also aids mental ability. It checks hair fall. These days, hairfall is a common disease. If five to six teaspoonful juice of thanparni leaves mixed with a cup of milk are taken regularly, one may get satisfactory result.Small leaved thanparni is very much effective against diarrhoea and bronchitis. For children suffering from dysentry,a paste made from Thanparni leaves, cumin seeds and sugar is recommended. The remeady is mild and does not have any side effect. In menstruation related problems of women, juice of Thanparni leaves are effective.A decoction made from Thanparni leaves can cure bronchitis, cough and cold. This wonderful herb Thanparni is also effective against insomania(sleeplessness).
When few fresh Thanparni leaves are swallowed in empty stomach and plenty of water is taken after that, the toxin of the body comes out with the urine.Ayurvedic practitioners use Thanparni in treating nervous disorders, convulsions and mental problems. It has been established that “sterol” a component of provitamin D is present in Thanparni.Chemical analysis by scientists has firmly established that sterol is a precursor of Vitamin D.Therefore thanparni is efffective against Ricket, a Vitamin D deficiency disease in children, where poor intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphates takes place.Thanparni has also been found to be effective against leprosy.
Journal of Indian Medical Association published in 16th April,1978 it was stated that “…………..It appears that Mandukaparni (Bengali,Thankuni) is active against leprosy, liver diseases, blood diseases, cough, and odema. It has been reported by Nadkarni(1972) that leprosy patients,in course of a few weeks, improved in all respects, and of the whole plant, the root was believed to be more active.” “The chemical nature of the compounds varied according to the places of occurence of the plant”.
“Later, it was postulated that active principle of Mandukaparni acts by dissolving the waxy covering of Myco,Leprac, Bacilli become fragile and might easily be destroyed by tissues or by some other drugs rapidly.” Thanparni leaves are considered to be blood purifier. In Assam, Bengal and in some other parts of India Thanparni leaves are taken as vegetable.
SATSANG CHEMICAL WORKS (Satsang Rasaisana Mandir) in the premises of Thakur Bunglow,Deoghar is rendering excellent service by providing readymade Thanparni tablets made with the help of modern machineries.
In many many years ago Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu(also known as Gauranga Prabhu,a Krishna incarnation) explained magical properties of Tulashi leaves (oscimum sanctum), the favourite plant of Lord Vishnu. In the modern age Param Premomoy(supreme love personified)Sri Sri Thakur Anukulachandra explained the importance of taking Thanparni each morning for a happy and healthy life.My prayer is, may Thanparni become an object of adoration in each home just like Tulashi.
JAYGURU.

Sri Sri Thakur wanted everyone to learn Sanskrit, the language of Devatas. Here is a true story to share with you... No one knows how old the Vedas are. HMV had once published a pamphlet giving the history of gramophone record. Gramophone was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in the 19th century. Edison, who had invented many other gadgets like electric bulb and the motion picture camera, had become a legend even in his own time. When he invented the gramophone record, which could record human voice for posterity, he wanted to record the voice of an eminent scholar on his first piece. For that he chose Prof. Max Muller of England, another great personality of the 19th century. He wrote to Max Muller saying, "I want to meet you and record your voice. When should I come?" Max Muller who had great respect for Edison asked him to come on a suitable time when most of the scholars of the Europe would be gathering in England. Accordingly Edison took a ship and went to England. He was introduced to the audience. All cheered Edison's presence. Later at the request of Edison Max Muller came on the stage and spoke in front of the instrument. Then Edison went back to his laboratory and by afternoon came back with a disc. He played the gramophone disc from his instrument. The audience was thrilled to hear the voice of Max Muller from the instrument. They were glad that voices of great persons like Max Muller could be stored for the benefit of posterity. After several rounds of applause and congratulations to Thomas Alva Edison, Max Muller came to the stage and addressed the scholars and asked them, "You heard my original voice in the morning. Then you heard the same voice coming out from this instrument in the afternoon. Do you understand what I said in the morning or what you heard in the afternoon?". The audience fell silent because they could not understand the language in which Max Muller had spoken. It was `Greek and Latin' to them as they say. But had it been Greek or Latin, they would have definitely understood because they were from various parts of Europe. It was in a language which the European scholars had never heard. Max Muller then explained what he had spoken. He said that the language he spoke was Sanskrit and it was the first sloka of Rig Veda, which says "Agni Meele Purohitam" . This was the first recorded public version on the gramophone plate. Why did Max Muller choose this? Addressing the audience he said, "Vedas are the oldest text of the human race. And Agni Meele Purohitam is the first verse of Rig Veda. In the most primordial time when the people of Europe were jumping like Chimpanzees, from tree to tree and branch to branch, when they did not know how to cover their bodies, but with fig leaves, did not know agriculture and lived by hunting and lived in caves, at that remote past, Indians had attained high civilization and they gave to the world universal philosophies in the form of the Vedas. ******** Dr. Das

Sri Sri Thakur wanted the devotees to establish a place that will be holy fair for all over the world. Late SPR Sri Prafulla Kumar Das,Sri Chandranath Chakrabarti(SPR/President,Satsang Himaitpur,Pabna,Bangladesh) told in our presence. From that time 1953 a little hilly place near Bayaskundo(like River Ganga)is called SATSANG Ashram. Because it was uttered by Sri Sri Thakur and being a national pilgrimage Sankar math is there hence it is famous for all.We the devotees are trying to set a Ritwik Traning Center (A school for the Ritwik), a big Sri Mandir where in future all can visit and spend vacation with friends and family in the midst of Naam kirton.Old age people can also stay their rest of the life in this place chanting holy name.It is proposed to be completed as early as possible.Any charitable donation is most welcome for this purpose.
